What's the Difference between a Credit and a Refund?

A credit in Cloud does not function the same as a refund.

Refund
  • Returns money to the client's credit card
  • Automatically adds a discount to the job associated with the transaction (excluding refunds for Incorrect Tender Type)
  • Takes five to ten days to process, depending on the type of credit card
  • Is a net new transaction
For example if you charge a client $250.00 for a job and refund $50.00 of that as a Poor Service discount, $50.00 is deducted from the cost of the job and is returned to the client's credit card within five to ten business days.

Credit
  • Does not return any money to the client's credit card
  • Does not discount the job
  • Shows as a positive balance on the client's account
  • Can be used as an Apply Balance payment on a future clean
For example if you charge a client $250.00 for a job, but break a lamp, you might add a $50.00 credit to his account. In this case nothing is actually refunded to his card, but rather that $50.00 can be applied towards his next cleaning.

In short a refund returns money to the client's credit card, while a credit does not.
